Gorilla trekking is possible year-round in Uganda, but the experience changes with the seasons. The goal isn't just to go, it's to go when the forest trails are at their kindest.
When to Go
The drier months, roughly June to September and December to February, bring firmer trails and easier hiking through Bwindi and Mgahinga. Permits are in high demand in these windows, so book well ahead.
What to Expect
Treks can last anywhere from one to several hours depending on where the gorilla family has moved. A reasonable level of fitness helps, but guides set a steady, manageable pace.
Tip: The wetter months are greener and quieter, fewer trekkers, lower-season rates, but muddier trails.
